Summary on Grant Application Form |
The aim of the project is to develop new palladium catalysed C-N and C-O bond formations between vinylhalides or vinyltriflates and amines and alcohols. Initailly simple achiral reactions will be studied. The project will then study these transformations using enantiomerically enriched palladium catalysts in enantioselective desymmetrisation reactions. Both inter- and intramolecular cases will be examined. The intermolecular examples will produce functional groups useful for further modification. The intramolecular examples will result in the formation of N and O heterocycles. The research will focus on identifying substrates, catalysts and reaction combinations that provide enantioselective transformations. The oportunities for new reaction development, such as an enantioseletive vinyl triflate hydrolysis and triflate to enol silane conversion will also be explored.A wide range of highly functionalised, stereochemically defined products will be available using the proposed chemistry and the later stages of the project will be concerned with demonstrating the utility of the chemistry by the preparation of several traget systems selected from the natural product arena.
