Summary on Grant Application Form |
The aim of the project is to develop an understanding of the potential for using satellite imagery for post-disaster earthquake damage assessment (to buildings and geotechnical structures) by acquiring satellite images of the area affected by the 26.1.01 Gujarat earthquake shortly after the event and subjecting these images to analysis by specialists in aerial reconnaissance interpretation. The damage assessment will be compared with the results of field reconnaissance carried out by the EEFIT team in the immediate aftermath of the event to determine how effective such an assessment can be. A further field mission will be undertaken to clarify the comparison. The project will be guided by an expert steering group, which will include members from leading companies which are interested in applying the technique for future events.
