Summary on Grant Application Form |
While analytical methods for the identification of DNA and other nuclei acids are well established less progress has been made in developing techniques for studying the interactions of DNA with other molecules. We are proposing a one year feasibility study in order to demonstrate that Reflection Anistropy Spectroscopy can fulfil the role of a rapid, reproducible, real time and highly sensitive analytical technique for studying such interactions. We propose that Dr CI Smith transfer from the Surface Science Research Centre (SSRC) to the School of Biological Sciences where she will work with the groups of Dr DG Fernig and Prof C Edwards to master the relevant biochemical procedures for the preparation of suitable specimens of DNA and related molecules for the RAS experiments which will be carried out in the SSRC.
