Summary on Grant Application Form |
The Training Package is designed to help meet the national demand for masters level graduates in Operational Research(OR). The Training Package will prepare graduates for a career in OR by providing the core technical knowledge andpractical skills required by potential employers, together with opportunities to specialise in topics relevant to employersseeking specific expertise. The objective of the EPSRC funding is to allow continued development of a flexibleprogramme based on a number of core modules and a wide range of options with relevant practitioner input. Thisprogramme will have a particular emphasis on the computational aspects of operational research and appliedoptimization, such as efficient methods for mathematical programming and the use of high performance computing in;optimization based decision making. Independently, it will emphasize evolving application areas, such as riskmanagement in finance, telecommunications, and data mming. The Training Package will build on strengths of the n~existing MSc in Operational Research and Management Science both in its technical content and the career orientationof its graduates. Funding is also sought for a two year post to produce distance learning Web-based materials for moderndeveloping areas within OR.
