Summary on Grant Application Form |
We request funds for a commodity parallel computing resource to maintain a successful open parallel computing service at Imperial College run by the Parallel Computing Centre. The Imperial College Parallel Computing Centre was formed following a successful 1996 HEFCE JREI proposal for an 84 processor Fujitsu AP3000 and VX Vector processor. Since its delivery in summer of 1997 the AP3000 has supported an open multi-disciplinary research community that now spans all departments at Imperial College. We now wish to replace the AP3000 with a commodity cluster which, unlike other PC clusters at Imperial College, will be available for general use by the whole research community.
