Summary on Grant Application Form |
A group of new chiral ligands designed to produce similar structural characteristics to those of SALEM type complexes but which do not contain the reactive C=N unit will be synthesised. In this way we aim to produce systems which survive the relatively harsh conditions of catalyses such as oxidation and reduction and thus provide similarly selective but higher turnover catalysts than those currently achieved. The functional group properties of the ligands will be designed to support both early, first row and later transition metals. The chiral non-racemic complexes will be tested in imine reduction, alkene epoxidation and alkane/alkene hydroxylation.
