Before starting as Director of the UCL Interaction Centre, in October 2001, Thimbleby will undertake a 314 week tour of key North American HCI research laboratories. In addition to general benefits, the tours research will feed directly into at least two series of events in the UK: a Royal Society funded series of HCI meetings, and a debate on CS research in the UK at Gresham College
