Summary on Grant Application Form
Magnetocalorific alloys offer the possibility of reducing the energy consumption for heating and cooling and could replace gas compression/expansion refrigeration units. Using conventional technology, the alloys are expensive and difficult to make. The use of electrochemical de-oxidation of mixed oxides will allow cheaper and higher quality materials to be produced. The magnetocalorific properties of the alloys will be measured and optimised. It anticipated that purer materials will have better properties
