Summary on Grant Application Form
The objective a) grows out from the condidate work on the semi-stable reduction of Galois covers of degree p and from Raynaud's work on the specialisation theory of covers from 0 to positive characteristics. Our aim is to describe the semi-stable reduction of Galois covers of curves over p-adic fields with cyclic groups of order p' and apply this to investigate the problem of lifting of automorphisms of curves from positive to zero characteristic. We also aim to describe certain non-prime to p-quotients of the tame fundamental group of the projective line minus three points in positive characteristic. The objective b) grows out from the collaboration of the author with F. Pop and concerns the anabelian geometry of curves in positive characteristic. The condidate aim to investigate the behaviour of the specialisation homomorphism of fundamental groups, as well as the study of the variation of the fundamental group within the moduli space of curves in positive charactersitic.
