Summary on Grant Application Form
Mathematical Hydrodynamics is now an important subject in its own right. It raises and addresses deep questions from many aspects of mathematical analysis as well as interacting with physics, statistical mechanics, applied mathematics and computational science.Worldwide activity in the fundamental mathematics of this theory is high, but the UK is now somewhat underrepresented by international standards. It is therefore timely to organise a meeting, aimed primarily at younger researchers, where international experts can present the latest advances in many aspects of mathematical hydrodynamical research. The main topics to be covered will be: Euler Equations; Navier-Stokes Equations; Free Surfaces; and Statistical Hydrodynamics. The ICMS model for Instructional Conferences allows for the presentation of lecture series at different levels. More basic material is presented at the start of the meeting, progressing to more advanced research in the final week. The model has proved successful in the past in providing advanced training in various areas of mathematical analysis.
