Summary on Grant Application Form |
This Platform Grant will support three expert post-doctoral researchers to explore new avenues for the use of ferroelectric thin and thick film materials in micro and nano-structured devices. The research that we intend to conduct encompasses the exploration of new ferroelectric thin film compositions, with the intention of obtaining enhanced piezoelectric, pyroelectric and electro-optic properties, new technologies for the deposition of patterned ferroelectric thin films - specifically the investigation of energy-beam sensitive sols - to facilitate the fabrication of ferroelectric thin film nanostructures. The grant will also enable the exploration of the fabrication & properties of micro and nanostructured ferroelectric thin & thick film device structures. This part of the project will explore rewritable nanoscale ferroelectric structures for the manipulation of nanoscale particles and polar molecules, nanoscale piezoelectric devices such as resonators and their potential applications, and new types of piezoelectric devices at the micro-scale, using the materials developed within the grant. A key aspect of the grant will be the setting-up of new projects to explore these avenues and develop collaborations with other groups within the UK possessing complementary expertise.
