Summary on Grant Application Form
The area of spintronics is relatively new particularly with respect to hybrid semiconductor ferromagnetic systems. Currently the group at Imperail College are involved with a large European proposal to examine the feasibility of two or three terminal devices incorporating narrow gap semiconductors and a number of high spin polarised amgnetic systems. One such family is the heusler or semi- heusler series and to date rather a limited range or Heusler alloys have been explored for their compatibiity with semiconductor group and thei potential as high spin polarised systems. Dr S B Roy has a great deal of experimnce in making and studying the magnetic properties of Heusler alloys. This proposal aims to enable Dr Roy to visit Imperial College for 6 months where he will work in collaboration with the group to investigate a broader range of Heusler alloysfor their compatibility in these respects
