Summary on Grant Application Form |
Over the past few years several theoretical studies have been conducted at Heriot-Watt University to investigate the behaviour of fires in tunnels. These earlier models have been brought together under a single umbrella framework to effectively create a single model (CERBERUS). The existing model, however, has serious limitations which hamper its range of applicability. In the proposed project it is intended to conduct work to remove some of these limitations, namely, so that the model will include: (1) fire spread between objects other than 'HGV objects' only; (2) fires in tunnels other than tunnels which are similar to the Channel Tunnel only and (3) flame impingement on a second object. As has happened in previous work, a probabilistic Bayesian approach will be adopted.
