Summary on Grant Application Form |
A recently developed Co-mediated rearrangement reaction which provides difficult to access alkyne substituted cyclic ketones has been developed u our labs. An important feature of this process is the inherent regio-and stereochemical control which we have observed in simple systems and which we now hope to exploit in more complex reactions. Firstly, we hope to establish whether the rearrangement reaction is stereospecific at the propargylic centre, this will shed light on the relative rates of intramolecular alkylation processes in competition with dynamic processes present in Co-stabilised propargylic cations. We also hope to use traditional approaches to controlling the stereoselectivity of the rearrangement through Lewis acid catalysis and the employment chiral auxiliaries. Additionally, the relay of stereochemistry across the Co-alkyne cluster is proposed as a novel route to controlling the stereochemistry of the rearrangement reaction. Keywords: Synthetic methodology, organometallic chemistry
