Summary on Grant Application Form |
This project will assemble a consortium of research, development and leading edge industrial companies to develop an interactive auto-stereoscopic display device. The display will be based upon a Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) panel with the addition of a holographic optical element (HOE) and a custom, solid state lighting array allowing the auto-stereoscopic perception of 3D models or data. Importantly, by locating and tracking the position of one or more users the display's 3D performance can be enhanced to provide 1) A display that overcomes the current limitations of alternative approaches. 2) A stereoscopic 3D vie for multiple mobile users. 3) Full parallax 3D (ability to look around, under and over a 3D image) using vision as a non-contact sensorThe academic contributions to the project are the experimental development of the tracking software for integration with the developed autostereoscopic dist to be developed by the industrial partners and the program of basic research in that will provide advanced interaction tools for the display technology.
