Summary on Grant Application Form |
the chemical environment in which reacting species find themselves can have dramatic effects on the outcome of a chemical reaction. This proposal seeks , k careful examination of Diels-Alder cycloadditions, to determine the effects of the solute microenvironments provided by ionic liquids on reaction processes. Also ionic liquids have show ngreat promise as solvents for Diels-Alder cycloadditions. However, this relies on the results of very limited studies, both in tern of the ionic liquids that have been used and the range of reagents used. This proposal aims to establish how the ionic liquids can change the reactions occuring hem and then to develop new ionic liquids that will be optimised to the reactions. It will also seek a unified approach to the effects of reaction environments whether these arise in solution or in solid sate systems. Through this understanding it will generate new effective methods for Diels-Alder cycloadditions.
