Summary on Grant Application Form |
The project involves the development of novel supramolecular chiral imidazole based nucleophilic catalysts. These differ from other existing catalyst as the stereogenic elements are located distant from the reactive centre, but are aligned along the trajectory of an incoming chiral nucleophile when adopting a conformation controlled through co-ordination with an added cation. The primary aim is to prepare such catalysts and test their applicabili in the kinetic resolution of racemic alcohols and amines, followed by extending their applicability to the selective phosphorylation of enantio- and diastereotopic hydroxyl groups. The latter will be explored through phosphorylation of carbohydrates and inositol substrates. Wider applicability such use as bidentate ligands in palladium catalysed coupling reactions and in asymmetric reprotonations will be explored towards the end of the project, together with strategies for the immobilisation of active catalysts on polymeric supports.
