Summary on Grant Application Form
The proposed usage of the terraflop facility covers eight principle themes covering many major areas of science. A consortium based at twelve centres within the UK will study these themes. The applications include a range of challenging and demanding projects that will only be possible on a system with the computational power of the HPC(x) facility. These themes are; biological processes, carbon nanostructures, materials under extreme conditions, surfaces and interfaces, ice, bulk and nano-scale semiconductor materials, and solutions and the solid liquid interface We emphasise that these themes interact very strongly and that the UKCP network is essential to the close interaction and collaboration between sub-projects.
