Summary on Grant Application Form
Of the hundreds of metal A-diketiminates all except two (see Case for Support) have been of monoanionic ligands [L ] Our aim is to exploit our discovery (by Dr. Khvostov 2 also feasibility studies ) in order to develop the chemistry of metal complexes containing [L ] - (n = 2 or 3). Emphasis will be on [{N(SiMe3 )C(Ph))ZCH] (= L) and [{N(C, Hs Prz,-2,6)C(Me))2CH] (= L' )Synthesis will be carried out of (i) ML (M = Li, Na, K), MLz (M = Mg, Cu, Zn, Sm, Yb) and MLp Mez (M =Ti, Zr) (L = L or Lt ) as substrates; and (ii) of reduced species, using (i) and K, [K(18-crown-6)(PhMe)], KCs or M. (iii) Structural and CV data on selected products of (i) and (ii) will be followed by (iv) computations, correlating observed and calculated structural parameters. (v) The reactions of selected compounds (ii) with respect to Nz, ketones, arenes and d, A -unsaturated carbonyls will be explored and extensions to catalytic systems will be sought.
