Summary on Grant Application Form |
The One-day Workshop on 'Transmutation of Nuclear Waste' will be held at the University of Surrey in November 2002. It will mark the first of a s of possible initiatives that should be viewed as a follow-up to the recent EPSRC organised workshop on Applications of Nuclear Physics in Manche., This Workshop will provide a unique opportunity to bring to the attention of the UK academic nuclear physics community, and the wider commun nuclear engineers, chemists, geologists etc, the nuclear physics problems and opportunities involved in transmutation of radioactive waste. It will to the attention of the wider community (the nuclear industry, government and the public) the problem the UK has in lagging behind many countries in developing a coherent policy and programme of research on the subject. It will also announce the willingness of the UK academic nu physics community to act as an impartial, yet informed and highly trained, facilitator of future dialogue as well as highlight a major application of nuclear physics research.
