The overall objective of the project is to increase the awareness and understanding of the general public, including their young children, and secondary school children, and their teachers, of the potential benefits of renewable and new clean energy technologies, including fuel cells, solar power, wind power, the use of renewable fuels such as biogas from landfill sites, animal waste, vegetable matter and biomass, utilisation of coal-bed and coal-mine methane, ground sourced heat pumps, and some of the issues surrounding their use, through a number of specific targeted activities.Specific objectives include:1. Development of interactive hands-on displays and demonstrations of renewable and new clean energy technologies to be showcased at the Sustainable Energy Centre proposed at Chatterly Whitfield site, Stoke-on-Trent, at the Apedale Heritage Centre, Newcastle-under-Lyme, and at the Cheddleton Flint Mill Museum in Staffordshire. The interactive displays will also be taken into secondary schools across Staffordshire, Cheshire and Shropshire.2. Development of clear and informative explanatory notes and information leaflets, to be taken away, to accompany the displays and demonstrations.3. A series of general interest talks, debates and quizzes on renewable and clean energy technologies and the surrounding issues of energy conservation, consumption, recycling, greenhouse gas emissions and global warming, for the general public, secondary schoolchildren and their teachers. These will be held at the Chatterly Whitfield site, the Apedale Heritage Centre and the Cheddleton Flint Mill, and will be adapted to be taken into secondary schools across the region.4. Production and publication of general articles understandable by the lay-person in the local and regional media, including free publications, circulated to every household in the region, produced by Staffordshire County Council, Stoke-on-Trent City Council and Newcastle-under-Lyme Borough Council.5. Final versions of display boards and information leaflets outlining and explaining the many different renewable and new clean energy technologies, describing the benefits and highlighting recent research and developments for each one, to be used as a permanent portable educational resource.6. Two quizzes on renewable and new clean energy technologies, energy conservation and consumption, recycling, greenhouse gas emissions and global warming, to be used as educational resources for schools for use with Years 7-8 and 10-11.
