Describe the proposed research in about 200 words.The 12' UK Postgraduate School in Nuclear Physics is the 12' in a highly successful series of summer schools and it is expected that all EPSRC funded UK postgraduate students in their first or second year will attend. The broad aim of this summer school is to provide a link between the students' knowledge and the cutting edge of current research both experimental and theoretical as well as give an overview over the applications of nuclear physics. The breadth of topics chosen, from all areas of current UK nuclear physics research, ensures that a healthy mix between familiar and unfamiliar research is presented. In many cases the school is the only time during their postgraduate studies that the students are exposed to some of these topics. The school also provides important training for the development of presentation skills, as each student presents a short talk on his or her research project to their peers. As a side benefit the format encourages the formation of cross institutional networks both with peers and established researchers.
