Summary on Grant Application Form |
Plasma science and technology is an interdisciplinary field that contributes strongly to the UK economy. It is capable of considerable growth. But this can only occur through the thorough understanding of the properties of plasmas, which is the key technological challenge in a wide range of industrial sectors. To help promote this the proposed workshop is aimed at facilitating developing plasma technology by providing a forum between academia and industry, with presentations on leading edge research activities and industrial needs across the whole plasma science community. Here we request funds from EPSRC to help support the first UK Technological Plasmas Workshop, prinicipally to encourage attendance and active participation of young researchers. This follows on from and the tradition of the highly successful yearly Technological Plasmas Initiative Community Meetings (Dec 1999 - Dec 2002), which were funded through the EPSRC Technological Plasmas Initiative Programme. Within the framework of the workshop, the industrial needs of the plasma community will will be raised, highlighted and discussed, together with research programmes and sources of funding which can be used to address these needs.
