Summary on Grant Application Form
This project is centred around an important area of main group chemistry namely the heavier chalcogen nitrides, and aims to marry the experience of th (who has been investigating many aspects of this chemistry over the past 17 years) with recent developments in order to generate a range of new speci many with potentially very interesting and useful properties. Compounds generated will include complexes containing new chalcogen-nitride ligands, ar free nitrides themselves. The latter will be especially important as they will have the potential to act as precursors to polymeric materials such as (SeN) we can be sure will exhibit important conductivity properties. In particular the work will focus on the use of adducts of diselenium dinitride (which are ur the group of the PI) to act as sources of the free nitride; the resulting material will be thoroughly assessed by a range of techniques available at Loughbi including collaborative measurements with solid state chemists and elect rochemists. In addition the reactivity of a range of new synthons such as mixe long chains and mixed S/Se tetranitrides will thoroughly assessed; again, metal complexes resulting from this work will then be used as precursors to fr materials.
