Summary on Grant Application Form |
The experimental campaign will use facilities at Cranfield Universities' Cranfield and Shrivenham campuses. Simple tests to determine the material properties over a range of loading rates and conditions, to provide data for derivation of constitutive and damage model parameters and using Hopkinson bar, plate impact and spall experiments.Impact tests on representative structures giving results for validation of the numerical modelIn the theoretical and numerical investigations all modes of failure of the material will be considered, from total fragmentation of the material that occurs at the point of impact, to cracking of the fibres and matrix that may occur away from the point of impact, weakening the surrounding structure. The deliverables from this research will be:A numerical model for RTM structures suitable for implementation in commercial analysis software. A set of high strain rate properties, appropriate for the material model.
