Summary on Grant Application Form
The secondee will be working together with Professor Rack and his group, developing collaborative research based on the common interests and respective strengths of the Clemson and QUB groups. The emphasis is on combining the QUB strength in computer modelling and the Clemson strength in novel and advanced materials. New research directions and proposals will be developed on modelling of the evolution of microstructure in these novel systems, including titanium dioxide/aluminium composites, zirconia xerogels, and tungsten-carbon thin films. In parallel, co-operative research will be carried out in the existing overlapping projects on titanium and other metallics, advancing the science. To achieve the objectives, a specific work programme has been planned, including three areas: Computer model of titanium and advanced metallics; Joint research proposals; Novel and advanced non-metallic materials. Papers and project report will be prepared in all these areas. It is planned that the research results and capabilities developed will be exploited by technical consultancy and setting up company commercialising software products.
