Summary on Grant Application Form
In December 2000 the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (USA) held an international seminar to consider the predictive capabilities of w ind-turbine codes using their recently measured data. This highlighted the need for a detailed consideration of the codes sub-system with proper benc hmarking (became part of an International Energy Association Annex). The present proposal considers a significant part of that Annex; the unsteady aerodynamic-modelling. This will be achieved by a series of aerofoil wind tunnel tests to obtain appropriate data for the configuration of the Leishman-Beddoes Dynamic-Stall Model. This will be compared with that resulting from the NREL data and a final benchmarked model offered to the international community for assessment. An international seminar, similar to the one held for the 'Blind Test, will conclude the work. The NREL experiment was of such significance that a special edition of VVind Energy was devoted to the initial consideration of the collected data (contents page enclosed) and it was for the current proposers paper that they won the best paper at the ASME Wind Energy Symposium in 2002.
