Summary on Grant Application Form |
We propose to run a research workshop devoted to the study of free boundary problems in fluid mechanics, with particular emphasis on the topics of slow viscous flow, Hele-Shaw flow, water waves, impact problems, thin films and contact lines. These specialist topics have been carefully selected, being sufficiently related that researchers can communicate ideas without having to provide large amounts of background information, yet sufficiently diverse that there should be plenty of scope for exchange of novel ideas. The invited speakers are drawn from each of the specialist areas, and from a variety of mathematical backgrounds. The workshop timetable will be principally devoted to research talks, but will also incorporate themed discussion sessions which will, it is hoped, facilitate collaboration. It is intended that a limited number of research students will attend, and that those at an advanced stage of their research will have the opportunity to present their results.
