Summary on Grant Application Form |
Over the past decade the Centre for Vision, Speech and Signal Processing CVSSP, at the University of Surrey, has established an internationally recognised leading edge Visual Media Research Group VMRG with a critical-mass of expertise in content production, transmission and interaction. VMRG has received a number of prestigious awards for both academic publications and products resulting from technology transfer with industry. Visual Media is a basic enabling technology to provide the next generation of human-computer interfaces, entertainment and communication applications. Current convergence of visual media technologies between film, broadcast, interactive entertainment and the web make this a highly productive and important research area for pioneering future mass-user technologies. This platform grant will support experienced post-doctoral research staff to pursue long-term strategic research initiatives in visual content production, interaction and information retrieval. Stable long-term funding for key researchers is strategically important at this time to underpin the expansion of VMRG and maintain the momentum of high-quality leading edge research using state-of-the-art specialist facilities. The goal of VMRG is to address the fundamental scientific advances in the analysis and interpretation of dynamic scenes required to enable future interactive content production.
