Summary on Grant Application Form |
A protocol has been developed in this department whereby antibacterial assays can be determined in both contact and vapour phases of compounds against a range of pathogens. The protocol can be applied to extracts from Ecosearch International Ltd. The solvent has been shown to be negative to the test pathogens. MIC assays will be carried out on extracts delivered by Ecosearch and the results collated to select the flowers having the lowest MIC values. The results will be extrapolated to indicate the flowers with the highest antibacterial activity against the same pathogens. Since it is known that antibacterial activity is proportional to the BHA polymer content, the results will also therefore indicate the flowers with the highest BHA monomer content. Ecosearch will deliver selected flower material to Botanix Ltd for direct extraction of BHA monomer.
