Summary on Grant Application Form |
The proposed programme of work is a fundamental study of a collection of problems in the general area of free-surface thin film flows. The principal aim is to advance our understanding of these flows by considering two particular classes of problems in order of increasing complexity:(i) Free-surface thn film flows: hydrochemical waves due to the Marangoni effect and 3D complex spatio-temporal dynamics on a falling film.(ii) In the second and most ambitious stage of the fellowship we shall examine free-surface thin film flows which give rise to singularities (unlike the flows in (i)): dynamics of moving contact lines over heterogeneous substrates, the mesoscopic hydrodynamics of thin films and topological transitions.
