Summary on Grant Application Form |
Catalytic C-H activation allows chemistry that would otherwise take several discrete steps to be performed cleanly and efficiently in one step. During the course of this fellowship we intend to use novel C-H activation processes to realise wide range of new C-C bond-forming reactions. The proposed research can be broadly divided into three areas: (a) t development of catalytic intermolecular ortho-specific arylations and related reactions; (b) the development of one-pc syntheses of benzo[b]- and dibenzo[b,d]-fused heterocycles via C-H activation and (c) the inception and developmen catalytic meta-metallation. While very limited precedents exist for (a) and (b), the establishment of catalytic meta metallation will open up an entirely new field of catalysis.
