Summary on Grant Application Form |
Timetabling and rostering represents a huge class of difficult real world problems that are of significant importance in a wide range of industries and service sectors. Examples of application areas range from maintenance scheduling in the electricity industry to train driver scheduling in the public services and from sports scheduling to machine scheduling on the factory floor. This fellowship will bring together the considerable research expertise of Prof Meisels and the Automated Scheduling, Optimisation and Planning Research Group at the University of Nottingham to systematically investigate and explore a range of issues to tackle the open problem of agent based co-operation in a scheduling environment. We will also explore other avenues of related research interest during Prof Meisel's visit. In particular we will explore the relationship between the work carried out in the core 3 month programme and rostering and timetabling problems. One of the objectives of this fellowship is to pump prime further collaboarative work between the two universities and we would hope to use this fellowship as the basis of a joint EU research programme in the field.
