As the research councils have recognised, the UK is lagging somewhat in the move towards systems biology approaches, with one of the major bottlenecks being the limited ability to conduct high-throughput genomics analyses. Given the strengths of the Cambridge area in genomics, genetics and bioinformatics, and the level of interaction among local research groups and their international collaborators, Cambridge is ideally placed to I international study group to address these issues. The group will consist of a core of local researchers in the biological and physical sciences cur working in genomics, and eminent people active in this field in the UK, Europe and the US. We propose a group size of 25, including local participants that would meet for two days to discuss issues specific to the UK in the development and implementation of high-throughput genomics technolog required for systems biology, and also to discuss and propose the conceptual, computational and technical requirements necessary for the prose of internationally competitive genomics-based systems biology research in the UK. Our aim is that this meeting will help to prime the UK reseaccl community for future developments in this key area. We have attached further details, including a list of proposed participants.
