Summary on Grant Application Form |
We request platform support to underpin and develop materials chemistry in the Liverpool Materials Chemistry Group (LMCG). Our aim is to promote sustainability, integration, and excellence within this group to allow it both continuity and the freedom to tackle truly adventurous problems. A platform grant would support a portfolio of interrelated research projects encompassing microporous metal-organic frameworks, microwave dielectric oxides, the development of the newly discovered oxide hydrides, high-pressure synthesis of borides and oxides, materials synthesis using supercritical fluid solvents, the synthesis of templated hierarchically porous organic materials, and nanoscale imprinting / molecular recognition. Integration and development of the porous materials synthesis activity across all length scales will be major added value arising from this platform grant. We request support to allow project flexibility and continuity of expertise within these specific areas via the retention of key research staff. We also seek funds to support a full-time Experimental Officer to maintain our research infrastructure and to manage the very broad range of synthetic and analytical equipment employed in the LMCG. A further goal of this grant will be the development of international collaborations by the support of exchange visits to and from LMCG.
