Summary on Grant Application Form |
This proposal seeks to develop a method applicable to both laser-illuminated and self-luminous objects for 3-component velocity measurement on a continuous basis across a 4-dimensional field. No techniques are currently available for the study of temporally varying microfluidic systems or 4D gas phase flows. The proposed instrumentation is based on an image plane measurement along a single line of access, where that image is subject to nonaxially-symmetric aberrations. The method will be applied to map flow structure development in: micro-actuator pump designs addressing the fundamental issue of friction, novel manufacturing processes for the construction of sub 100mm pitch bumped chips and to gas phase flows relevant to mixture preparation in automotive engines.
