The Advanced Workshop 'MicroElectrode Techniques for Cell Physiology' has been running at the Laboratory of the Marine Biological Association for the past 20 years. Hitherto, Workshop attendees have been drawn mainly from the Life Sciences side of the Interface. With the increasing engagement of physical scientists of all kinds with fife sciences research, it is timely to extend opportunities previously available to MRC, BBSRC and Wellcome Trust students and post docs to EPSRC students and postdocs by becoming a Life Sciences Interface Summer School. One of the most difficult challenges for physical scientists is to understand the biological basis of life sciences experiments. This Workshop is ideally placed to offer a wide range of training and future research opportunities. The close interaction between Faculty and participants provides a rapid and efficient method for young scientists to team to cross the Life Sciences Interface Bridge. The very high international standing of this Workshop means that participants gain immediate contact with the best scientists. The Faculty already includes computer scientists and physicists working together with a range of Life scientists. The Marine Biological Laboratory offers an environment unique in the UK, where participants can absorb rapidly new concepts, methods of working and increased understanding.
