Summary on Grant Application Form |
Professor Reed is part of a European wide (and beyond) consortium wiich is bidding for an Integrated Project as part of the Sixth EU Framework Programme for Research and Technological Development (FP6). The project is aimed at building a distributed network, entitled The VIRtual technoloGy platform for Integrated Nanophotonics , (VIRGIN), on European level as well as on a global level. The intention is to submit a proposal for an Integrated Project, that will combine the skills and facilities of all partners in the project with a view to advancing the fabrication, the understanding, and the theoretical aspects of photonic components. In particular we aim to incorporate a range of optical technologies throughout laboratories in Europe, to utilise both hybrid and monolithic technology platforms. There are 35 partners, from which a core group of 10 have been selected, charged with producing the proposal document. Professor Reed is one member of the core group. This application is to provide travel funds to attend meetings of the core group.A secondary aim of the grant is to establish a collaboration with the University of Belgrade, who have complementary skills to our own. Consequently travel funds are also requested to visit Belgrade.
