Summary on Grant Application Form |
My primary aim is to raise public awareness of science and engineering through television programmes, radio, newspapers and magazines. In particular, using robotics and design to motivate and increase understanding of engineering and to produce exciting and easily digestible formats about the methods and philosophy of science. The latter will mainly be by getting across the relationship and transfer of knowledge between the life sciences and engineering through Biorobotics. Much of the current TV work that I do reaches large popular audiences and my intention is to keep up the momentum of these programmes and exploit my familiarity with the public to,Motivate and interest the young in engineering and science by targeting programmes specifically at schools and by exploiting current (fairly universal) enthusiasm for robotics.Raise awareness and promote confidence with deprived groups by developing popular engineering and science programmes.Reach a wide audience with the important relationship between the life sciences (biology and psychology), engineering and artificial intelligence.Raise public understanding of scientific method and the philosophy of science by developing easily digestible format programmes on Biorobotics and by encouraging experimentation at home.
