Summary on Grant Application Form |
This project is about helping e-Science projects in applying Software Engineering techniques; specifically, adopters of the DataGrid software. The first phase of the project has concentrated upon supporting the DataGrid's architecture task force (ATF) in its role of co-ordinating software development across the DataGrid project. Our contribution has helped the ATF to work productively, and has produced a substantial internal project document. The continuation project will focus upon dissemination of these results - specific details of the DataGrid's design, the engineering decisions which led to the present architecuture, and the benefits gained by such an approach in eScience projects. We will do this through publication of several reports and papers, and also through engagement with the development of the southern England GridPP-funded Tier 2 centre. The specific challenges expected here are that the centre will be a 'distributed node', not envisaged by the original architecture, and also that there will be considerable interest in migration to, or integration with, an Open Grid Sercvices Architecture. The project's role will be to assist in concerns of methodology and process, specifically in UML modelling, and to reflect upon the value of such input in this context.
