Describe the proposed research using (about 200) words geared to the non-specialist reader.We propose to test and evaluate the first implementation of the OGSA core by deploying the GT3 toolkit in a service-based Grid testbed spanning organisational boundaries with differing institutional services, security policies and firewalls. The partners involved bring complementary skills and experience to the evaluation, which has been gained either by deploying earlier versions of Globus, via a variety of application-oriented e-Science projects, or by implementing complementary tools within other EU funded efforts.The project will deploy GT3 across five sites, in addition it will deploy and test a small number of other OGSI implementations. Metrics will be developed to evaluate performance, ease of deployment and use, and interoperability. The OGSI core services will be evaluated in the existing projects mentioned above. Results of the evaluations will be provided in the form of technical reports for input into the GGF OGSI/ OGSA WGs and the UK e-Science Programme. Reports will focus on: (1) Resource implications of a Java-based hosting environment; (2) Inter-operability of OGSI implementations (3) OGSA middle-layer services required; (4) Experiences with multi-site GT3 deployment; (5) Migration from GT2 to GT3; (6) An overall final report.
