Summary on Grant Application Form |
We propose to provide a series of integrated events based around the robotics theme and present it to a wide audienc ranging from schools through to families. The robotics theme is a good vehicle to show many aspects of science and engineering.Through these events it will be emphasised that robotics is an interdisciplinary area and involves several branches of science and engineering. It will also highlight a number of research aspects of our school; advanced control of multiple robots, novel robotic gripper design, advanced manufacturing and sub-sea robotics. To maximise impact, we propose that the exhibition will be portable, re-useable and available for a range of events around the central belt of Scotland. There are three major components in this proposal. An exhibition with a blend of static and novel interactive hands-on displays that plot the theme of robotics through history, books, cinema, present day robotics, and the future of robotics through ongoing research. A set of half/one-day robotics hands-on competitive events for local schools based on teams adding functionality to a supplied robotic vehicle. A series of lectures to highlight interesting aspects of the area of robotics.
