We plan to produce a set of 3 'Careers with Mathematics' posters demonstrating the range of career opportunities which the study of mathematics at A level and degree can open up, based on the material on the Plus website (www.plus.maths.org). Feedback from focus group sessions with A-level mathematics teachers organised last summer by the Admissions Office and from canvassing teachers' views at Specialist Schools Trust events has indicated a very strong demand from teachers for attractive and informative classroom posters which can themselves be used as teaching resources. One view which was expressed several times was that there was a shortage of attractive material for the maths classroom, compared to other subjects. We therefore produced a one-off prototype poster which we displayed during National Science Week in Cambridge to gauge reactions: the response to this from both the members of the general public and the teachers and students who attended the Open Day at the Centre for Mathematical Sciences was very positive. In addition we have had positive feedback on the prototype posters and the Plus careers information in general from the head of the Science and Engineering Ambassadors scheme at SETNET, who commented favourably on the wide range of careers which the prototype poster featured.
