Summary on Grant Application Form
Messaging services are now seen as an essential part of a Grid computing system. Just as services virtualise software resources, a messaging infrastructure virtualises communication between services and other Grid components. This improves interoperability, portability and flexibility, and isolates the message from the medium. Message services are typically asynchronous and so can handle connection difficulties.NaradaBrokering, a messaging system developed at Indiana University, will be compared in functionality and performance with the Pastry, JMS and MQ commercial systems. The interoperability of NaradaBrokering and JMS will be demonstrated. NaradaBrokering will be further tested by performing experiments with the GridFTP application. The functionality of NB will then be examined in more detail. Among the aspects to be examined are location independence, end-to-end security, scalability, and deliver reliability.
