The Clean Technology Group (CTG) at Nottingham specialises in the application of supercritical fluids (SCFs) to reaction chemistry and materials processing. Our Platform Grant has added value across our whole research portfolio by (i) enabling us to make vital PDRA appointments (ii) transforming the engineering infrastructure which underpins all of our equipment and (iii) supporting visits by key overseas collaborators. We believe that we have succeeded under all of the criteria highlighted in the Renewal Procedure. The result is a strengthening of our national and international position in research, as indicated by increased funding (Over 2000-3, our total research income has been as high as in the previous 7 years, 1993-9), high profile publications, prizes and promotion for the Investigators, postdoctoral positions in leading US research groups and prestigious fellowships for group members and prizes for conference presentations by our students. We have achieved all of our original objectives, including new science and widespread interdisciplinary and industrial collaboration. Our new objectives capitalise on our recent strategy and achievements, and exploit the opportunities presented by two successful interdisciplinary SRIF2 bids (3M in total) led by our group in the areas of materials and spectroscopy. We seek funding to ensure continuity of our key PDRAs, for an engineering technician and for pump priming overseas collaborations.
