Summary on Grant Application Form |
This proposed work aims to establish a conceptually new approach to a range of aryl boronic esters by the employment of alkynylboronates in a series of benzannulation reactions. Importantly, this strategy allows direct incorporation of the synthetically useful boronate moiety into highly substituted and functionalised aromatic synthetic intermediates. Initial studies will focus on exploring the scope of alkynylboronates in the Dotz annulation reaction both in the context of the reaction mechanism and the synthetic intermediates which can be accessed. Additionally, and in a wide context, we. hope to demonstrate that alkynylboronates will participate in [4+2] cycloaddition reactions towards similar aromatic boronic esters in an effort to develop a more economical process which avoids the use of stoichiometric transition metal organometallics.
