Summary on Grant Application Form |
This application is for a modest amount of money to support a week-long, summer school in the Foundations of computing held under the auspices of the Midlands Graduate School in the Foundations of Computer Science held during Easter 2004, 2005 and 2006. The overall goal of the summerschool will be to further the training of PhD students by exposing them to a wider range of research topics than they would normally encounter during their research. To achieve this aim, the summer-school will consist of about 10 short lecture courses of five hours each. These courses will be presented by internationally leading researchers from the universities of Nottingham, Leicester and Birmingham. Although primarily aimed at research students from across the UK, we also expect to attract interest from European students. The school builds upon the experience gained from running a similar and highly successful event last year which was also supported by EPSRC.
