Summary on Grant Application Form |
This is a proposal to specifically fund Dr Etchegoin to return to the UK to work with the Imperial group on four aspects of our current program.). The activities at imperial College in this specific area started almost three years ago through an EPRSC grant (GRIR28775) in which both Dr. L. F. Cohen and Dr. P. G. Etchegoin (the visiting fellow) have been involved. Dr. P. G. Etchegoin has been a permanent member of staff at Imperial College as a Lecturer (1999-2001) and Senior Lecturer (2001-2003), when he left to take a position at the McDiarmid Institute for Advanced Materials and Nanotechnology, Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand. Our overall aim here is to exploit the experience of Dr. Etchegoin in the field and to complete and expand upon many of the aspects of the ongoing programs between the groups. In addition, there are two PhD-studentships at Imperial College in this and highly related areas Mr. R. C. Maher studying metrology of SERS, who is an EPSRC DTA quota award student in his first year and Mr M. Campo-Quile, studying ellipsometry of (bio) polymers who has just completed his second year, (Dr Cohen and Prof Bradley are now the supervisors, respectively). These two students will benefit enormously from a series of regular visits from their former supervisor Dr. Etchegoin.
