Summary on Grant Application Form |
This is a 5-year Platform Grant proposal for realising the long-term goal of the research team at Imperial College to develop CMR techniques that are suitable for the early diagnosis of cardiovascular disease when it can be controlled or reversed with non-invasive therapy. This echoes the paradigm shift in future healthcare where increasing emphasis is placed on the detection and monitoring of biological markers at the onset of the disease when therapeutic efforts are most effective. The proposal will provide support for cohesion and continuity of funding for a range of new projects based on the three major themes of the group concerning adaptive imaging, integrated/targeted multi-spectral imaging, and cardiovascular modelling. It will help to consolidate the current research of the group, promote its clinical applications, and embark on preliminary work on some of the high-risk research elements before full-scale research is conducted. The proposal will also provide partial funding for a senior RA to act as research manager for providing continuity and coordination of research work within the group, and an independent steering committee for advising strategic research directions and synergistic links with industries and other leading institutions.
