Summary on Grant Application Form |
The forefront of fundamental research in condensed matter has now reached the level where the interplay between many-body correlations, quantum interference and disorder has become the key issue, and field theoretical methods represent the most prominent analytical approach to this class of problems. The new phenomena in the focus of the School include Bose-Einstein condensation of atomic gases and the metal-insulator transition in two-dimensional high mobility electron structures. Other systematic lecture courses will encompass theories of the Luttinger liquid of electrons in carbon nanotubes, the Kondo effect in quantum dots in the Coulomb blockade regime, quantum chaos in ballistic and disordered electronic microstructures, quantum transport in hybrid metal-superconductor-ferromagnet devices, and theories of photonic materials. Sveral courses will overview the recent development in the theory of pattern formation in classical growth and self-organisation problems. Theoretical courses will be complemented by reviews of advanced experiments in these fields given by world-tiding experimentalists.
